Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind

For the Coastal Virginia offshore wind project, TME delivered two soft covers. The demonstration project is executed to provide operation, weather, and environmental experience needed for the development of the eponymous 2.6GW offshore wind farm. This project represents the first wind turbines installed in U.S. federal waters. The TP-covers were delivered to our client Jan de Nul in 2019.

For this project the hybrid covers were used, which consists of an aluminium framework and a 900g/m2 Panama tarpaulin fabric cover. This type of cover makes it easier to lift the TP-cover on the transition piece in its whole, as requested. The diameter of the cover was 6.5 meters, with a total height of 1.6 meters and a weight of approximately 375 kg. By the use of HDPE strips and PVC brushings, the transition piece is protected against any possible damages by the TP-cover.
